Orange Gateway ehf has a long history in trading Bitcoin. It all started in 2014, when Iceland was still under currency controls after the 2009 financial collapse. A few friends decided to build a market for the people of Iceland to buy and sell Bitcoin. The company was called Skiptimynt ehf and it ran the ISX market in Iceland. Hlynur one of the founders created a brokerage service for Bitcoin trading in 2019, Bálkar Miðlun ehf, which in 2021 acquired the ISX market. In 2024 the company was rebranded to Orange Gateway ehf and opened up its market for the outside world beyond Iceland.
